Fear Children’s Bible Lesson Inspired by “Inside Out”
Memory Verse – Isaiah 41:10 “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will hold on to you with My righteous right hand.” HCSB
Discussion – What are you Fearful of? What makes you afraid? Do you get scared that there is something under the bed or in the closet? Are you scared you might miss something because you are running late or not prepared?
Lesson – When we are afraid we don’t have to do it alone. God tells us he is with us always. He is our comforter and our deliverer.
Deuteronomy 31:8 “The LORD is the One who will go before you. He will be with you; He will not leave you or forsake you. Do not be afraid or discouraged”
Lighting a Candle to show prayer
What you Need:
- Lighter (preferably with handle)
- Plastic ziploc bag
- Paper sheet to make into a fan
Light the candle. Allow the children to observe the candle. Have them give you feedback about the candle. Explain the candle being light is them. Take your sheet of paper folded into a fan. Gently wave your fan toward the candle and allow the children to observe how the fan affects the candle. It becomes wobbly and unstable. The fan represent fear and how fear disturbs our minds and comfort. Now hold up a plastic ziploc bag. Ask the children if they can see the candle through the bag. Its a bit distorted but still recognizable. The bag is prayer and how prayer cannot be seen but is still there and effective. Now to show kids how prayer works. Gently take the fan and fan left to right while the plastic bag is between the paper fan and candle. The candle goes unaffected. When we pray to God, He may not take away the situation but we can trust that God gives us peace.
Draw hopscoth using chalk on a sidewalk. Write the word “FEAR” on a rock. When the kids toss the rock on a Hopscotch square the children will need to skip that square by jumping over or around that square.
Tell children with Prayer to God we don’t have to fear that square. He is with us forever and ever.
No Fear Buttons
You will need the bottom bottom caps and tops. Take the circle and allow the kids to color their circles. Make sure to write first or have the kids write “NO FEAR. . . JESUS IS NEAR”. Make sure that you have the ones with the back that clips on shirts or bags.
