I work as a sub in our school district. I have seen it happen. In our district once teachers have entered attendance, they cannot change it. It is up to the attendance clerk. Teachers get busy getting class together and maybe forget to notify the office to change attendance. I know how upsetting it can be on a parent when they get that call. Good thing it was cleared up.

Something similar to this happened to me! It was the beginning of my son’s Pre-k school year. Well I was waiting for him to get off the bus…it seemed like the bus was running late. I called the school and they said no the bus isn’t running late, then they said they would look into it. Well a couple of minutes later the school called me back and was like “do not panic but we have no idea where your son is” I felt my heart drop into my gut. After what seemed like forever, the school called me back and said they had found him, he had been put on the wrong bus.

When I was in kindergarten I fell asleep on the school bus coming home. We were a very rural school district so the ride home was over 2 hours. Imagine the surprise of the driver when he found me asleep under the seat. He found me while double checking the bus at his house. We did not even have a home phone then, so he took me home. My mom had assumed I was playing at my cousins farm. We all got off at the end of the road and would walk about 1 1/2 miles home.

i actually have had this happen to me and honestly i almost went to jail cause when they called the teacher she also said my daughter wasnt there i immediately drove to the school when i got there asked for a pass to go speak with the teacher myself when i got to my daughters class there she sat playing with another little girl. after hugging my daughter. i immediately went to the principles office and went off. one reason was because it truly scared the bleep out of me and two because if my daughters regular teacher cant even recognize my daughter what on earth is she doing teaching. anyway to make a long story short from then on till i moved her to a different school i was no longer allowed on the property except to pick up and drop off my daughter. and i admit i probably could have handled it a lot differently but at the time i was too emotional to check myself before speaking

I have had this happen to me too! I called and said, “What do you mean my child is absent? I saw her get on the bus myself.” Ugh! Visions of child predators danced in my head. I had to wait several minutes to learn that the teacher mis-marked the attendance sheet. But yeah — it gets your blood pumping!

This little girl was just kidnapped and assaulted in our community yesterday. No one knew where this girl was and the school is getting some heat for not notifying the parents in a timely manner.

Fresno’s school district is facing criticism after a child abduction and assault. Questions are being asked if Fresno Unified should have notified her parents immediately when she didn’t show up for school. Linda Mumma Abc30 Action News talked with Superintendent Michael Hanson about the district’s attendance policies.

I am glad your son is okay. I haven’t had my son go missing, I have gotten the call from the school saying he was absent and I knew , forgot to call. However, this wasn’t a hour or two into the school day, it was in the afternoon. My SIL use to skip school and they school wouldn’t call until 6pm or later. How is that a good policy?

When I was in school they called within the 1st 20 minutes of school if I was out, same for my 19 yr old but my 16 year old they never called until almost 3 hours in to the day unless it was summer school then it was right away. Now when my 16 yr old misses they dont even call I never get the automated thing. In 2-3 hours so much can happen. I have a 2 year old now and dread sending him to school
