VBS “Twists and Turns” Large Tic Tac Toe Inspired from Lifeway

June 10, 2023 by rautry

Creating a Large Tic Tac Toe Game with Painter’s Tape and Paper Plates!

Tic Tac Toe is a classic game that never fails to entertain people of all ages. While the traditional game is typically played on paper or a small board, why not supersize the fun and create a large-scale version for your VBS? In this post, we’ll guide you through the process of creating a large Tic Tac Toe game using painter’s tape and paper plates as game pieces. Get ready to bring the excitement of this beloved game to life in a whole new way!

Materials Needed:

  • Painter’s tape
  • Paper plates (two different colors)
  • Scissors
  • Markers or pens (for decorating the plates)

Step 1: Prepare the Playing Area To create a large Tic Tac Toe game, start by choosing a spacious area like an open floor or a patio. Clear any obstacles that might hinder the gameplay. Use the painter’s tape to mark a 3×3 grid on the floor or ground. Each square of the grid should be large enough to accommodate a paper plate.

Step 2: Decorate the Paper Plates Take the paper plates and assign one color to each player. This will help differentiate their moves. Use markers or pens to decorate the plates with X’s and O’s, or any other symbols of your choice. Make sure the markings are clear and visible from a distance.

Step 3: Understand the Rules Before starting the game, make sure everyone understands the rules of Tic Tac Toe. The objective is to be the first player to get three of their symbols in a row, either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. Remind players that each turn involves placing one of their paper plates onto an empty square on the grid.

Step 4: Play! Now it’s time to play! Gather at least two players and decide who goes first. The first player will use one color of paper plates, while the second player will use the other color. Take turns placing your paper plates onto the empty squares of the grid, aiming to create a line of three of your symbols.

Step 5: Strategize and Have Fun As the game progresses, players will strategize and try to block each other’s moves while simultaneously planning their own winning strategies. Encourage friendly competition and a fun atmosphere as players get into the spirit of the game.

Step 6: Declare a Winner Continue playing until one player successfully forms a line of three of their symbols in a row. This player is declared the winner of the round! If all nine squares on the grid are filled without a winner, the game ends in a tie. You can either play multiple rounds or switch players to keep the excitement going.

Creating a large Tic Tac Toe game with painter’s tape and paper plates is a fantastic way to engage with friends and family while enjoying some friendly competition. The DIY nature of this activity adds a personal touch and allows for customization, making it even more enjoyable. So, gather your loved ones, grab some tape and paper plates, and get ready to have a blast with this supersized version of the timeless game of Tic Tac Toe!

When it comes to adding a touch of creativity and excitement to your gaming nights or educational activities, nothing beats a set of oversized dice. Large dice are not only visually appealing but also provide an engaging and interactive experience. In this post, we’ll guide you through a step-by-step process of creating your very own large dice using cardboard boxes. So, gather your crafting materials and let’s get started!

This is an inspired decoration Idea for Lifeway’s “Twists and Turns” VBS 2023 theme.

Materials Needed to create Large Dice:

  1. Cardboard boxes (preferably thick and sturdy)
  2. Ruler or measuring tape
  3. Pencil
  4. Craft knife or scissors
  5. Acrylic paints or markers
  6. Paintbrushes
  7. Clear sealant (optional)
  8. Glue (preferably a strong adhesive)
  9. A template of dice faces (optional)

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Measure and Mark: Begin by deciding on the size of your large dice. Use a ruler or measuring tape to determine the dimensions you desire. A typical size for large dice is around 12 inches per side, but you can adjust it to your preference. Mark the measurements on the cardboard using a pencil.
  2. Cut Out the Sides: Using a craft knife or scissors, carefully cut out the six sides of the dice from the cardboard. Ensure that each side is identical in size and shape. Take your time to achieve clean and precise cuts.
  3. Decorate the Faces: Now comes the fun part—decorating the dice faces. You can either create your own designs or find a printable template online for accurate dice faces. Using acrylic paints or markers, bring your creative ideas to life on each side of the dice. Allow the paint to dry completely before proceeding to the next step. You can cut our circles using a Circle SVG with your cutting machine.
  4. Assemble the Dice: Once the paint is dry, it’s time to assemble the dice. Apply glue to the edges of the cardboard pieces and carefully join them together, making sure they align perfectly. Press firmly and allow the glue to dry according to the manufacturer’s instructions. For added durability, you can reinforce the edges with extra strips of cardboard or use strong adhesive tape.
  5. Optional: Seal the Dice (Optional): To protect your beautiful artwork and enhance its longevity, consider applying a clear sealant over the painted surfaces. This step is optional but recommended, especially if you anticipate the dice being handled frequently.
  6. Enjoy the Fun: Your DIY large dice are now ready to be used! Whether it’s for educational purposes, board games, or even outdoor activities, these oversized dice will add an extra element of excitement. Roll them, use them for math games, or incorporate them into your favorite group activities.

Creating large dice from cardboard boxes is an enjoyable and budget-friendly craft project that can bring hours of fun to your gaming sessions or educational endeavors. By following these step-by-step instructions, you can easily craft your own oversized dice, personalize them with your unique designs, and unleash your creativity. So, gather your friends, family, or students and get ready for some unforgettable gaming experiences with your handmade dice!

Bible Gateway ESV – Genesis 2 -3

The Seventh Day, God Rests

2 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2 And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. 3 So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.

The Creation of Man and Woman

4 These are the generations
of the heavens and the earth when they were created,
in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens.

5 When no bush of the field was yet in the land and no small plant of the field had yet sprung up—for the Lord God had not caused it to rain on the land, and there was no man to work the ground, 6 and a mist[c] was going up from the land and was watering the whole face of the ground— 7 then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature. 8 And the Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there he put the man whom he had formed. 9 And out of the ground the Lord God made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

10 A river flowed out of Eden to water the garden, and there it divided and became four rivers. 11 The name of the first is the Pishon. It is the one that flowed around the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. 12 And the gold of that land is good; bdellium and onyx stone are there. 13 The name of the second river is the Gihon. It is the one that flowed around the whole land of Cush. 14 And the name of the third river is the Tigris, which flows east of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.

15 The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

18 Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” 19 Now out of the ground the Lord God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. 20 The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him. 21 So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. 22 And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. 23 Then the man said,

“This at last is bone of my bones
    and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called Woman,
    because she was taken out of Man.”

24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. 25 And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.

The Fall

3 Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made.

He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” 2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, 3 but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’” 4 But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” 6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. 7 Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loincloths.

8 And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?” 10 And he said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.” 11 He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?” 12 The man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit of the tree, and I ate.” 13 Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this that you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

14 The Lord God said to the serpent,

“Because you have done this,
    cursed are you above all livestock
    and above all beasts of the field;
on your belly you shall go,
    and dust you shall eat
    all the days of your life.
15 I will put enmity between you and the woman,
    and between your offspring and her offspring;
he shall bruise your head,
    and you shall bruise his heel.”

16 To the woman he said,

“I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing;
    in pain you shall bring forth children.
Your desire shall be contrary to your husband,
    but he shall rule over you.”

17 And to Adam he said,

“Because you have listened to the voice of your wife
    and have eaten of the tree
of which I commanded you,
    ‘You shall not eat of it,’
cursed is the ground because of you;
    in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life;
18 thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you;
    and you shall eat the plants of the field.
19 By the sweat of your face
    you shall eat bread,
till you return to the ground,
    for out of it you were taken;
for you are dust,
    and to dust you shall return.”

20 The man called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living. 21 And the Lord God made for Adam and for his wife garments of skins and clothed them.

22 Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of us in knowing good and evil. Now, lest he reach out his hand and take also of the tree of life and eat, and live forever—” 23 therefore the Lord God sent him out from the garden of Eden to work the ground from which he was taken. 24 He drove out the man, and at the east of the garden of Eden he placed the cherubim and a flaming sword that turned every way to guard the way to the tree of life.

Day 1: Jesus is holy. Bible story: Peter followed Jesus.
Day 2: Jesus is trustworthy. Bible story: Peter walked to Jesus on the water.
Day 3: Jesus is forgiving. Bible story: Peter denied Jesus and was restored.
Day 4: Jesus is worth following. Bible story: Peter spoke boldly about Jesus.
Day 5: Jesus is for everyone. Peter told Cornelius about Jesus.

As kids will follow along Peter for the week using board games to video games, below you will find some inexpensive decoration ideas.

Lifeways Vacation Bible School (VBS) is an exciting time of the year for both children and adults. This year, the theme is “Twists and Turns,” which means there are plenty of creative decoration ideas that can be done inexpensively. Here are some ideas to get started:

  1. Use Streamers: One of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to decorate for VBS is to use streamers. You can buy them in various colors and lengths and drape them around the room to add a festive touch. You can even twist them together to create fun designs and patterns.
  2. Make Paper Chains: Another easy and inexpensive way to decorate is by making paper chains. You can use construction paper in various colors and cut them into strips. Then, simply loop each strip around the previous one and secure with glue or tape. You can hang them from the ceiling or drape them around the room.
  3. Create a Backdrop: If you have a large wall in your VBS room, consider creating a backdrop. You can use inexpensive plastic tablecloths in various colors and cut them into strips. Then, twist and knot the strips together to create a textured and colorful background.
  4. Hang Balloons: Balloons are a classic decoration for any celebration, and they are relatively inexpensive. You can buy balloons in various colors and sizes and hang them from the ceiling or create balloon bouquets for the tables.
  5. Use Posters: Another inexpensive way to decorate is by using posters. You can buy posters with the VBS theme or create your own with paper and markers. You can hang them on the walls or prop them up on easels.
  6. Make a Paper Lantern: Paper lanterns are easy to make and can add a fun and colorful touch to your VBS room. You can use tissue paper in various colors and cut it into strips. Then, twist and glue the strips together to create a lantern shape. You can even add a battery-operated tea light inside to create a soft glow.
  7. Create a Photo Booth: Kids love taking photos, so why not create a photo booth for them to pose in? You can use a colorful sheet or tablecloth as the backdrop and add props like hats, glasses, and signs.

These are just a few inexpensive decoration ideas for Lifeways Vacation Bible School “Twists and Turns” theme. With a little creativity and some basic supplies, you can create a fun and festive atmosphere for your VBS event.

Have your Starveyors make these galactic starveyors popsicle stick star craft for Day 3 – The Restoration Promise. Older kids can follow directions to assemble on their own.

What you Need:

  • Popsicle Sticks
  • Glue or Glue dots
  • Gems or glitter glue
  • Yarn or ribbon

How to Make:

  1. I suggest you premake these stars for the preschool and younger age groups so they can immiedetly decorate them. Younger participants tend to take longer than older ones.

What do we know about the Missionaries

In a comment on Lifeway VBS, Melita Thomas shares that the missionaries for Game On 2018 VBS serve in Poland and Baltimore, MD. In another comment Melita mentions that you can decorate the missions area focused on sports, fans, band or any other aspect that goes with the theme. That there is no one way decorate. Since we know that the missionaries are serving in Poland and Baltimore, Maryland, the following decorations are based on some notable places of both Poland and Baltimore.

Babe Ruth Birthplace – Baltimore Orioles

I’ll be honest I do not know much about Babe Ruth other than a few basics, famous baseball player and world series! I do know a few more fun facts! I did not know that Babe Ruth’s birthplace is in Baltimore. There is a museum of his birthplace. Perhaps decorating half of your room with baseball gloves, bats and baseballs will be fitting. In the Decorations eBook files you get access to all of these as well as baseball player silhouettes that can be created in a large scale to place on the walls.

Paper Plate Turtle Craft Instructions

January 8, 2020 by rautry

Below you will find step by step instructions on how to make a Paper Plate Turtle Craft. Great for an easy decoration for VBS 2016 – Submerged or as an alternative craft. Remember to ask your congregation for donations of green paper plates and green construction paper.

What you Need:

  • Green Paper Plates
  • Scissors
  • Green Construction Paper
  • Double Sided Tape or Glue
  • Fast drying liquid glue

How to Make:

  1. First get all your supplies together. If you are using this as an alternative craft for your VBS week I would suggest that you have all your arms and legs cut out. If you go from room to room make ziplock baggies with arms and legs and googly eyes and paper clip to a plate. This will make being able to give instructions and handing out your craft to each participant quicker.
  2. Cut out your arms and legs from Green Construction Paper. Quick Tip – Fold your paper in half and half again and cut multiple at a time, this will save time and energy.
  3. Take your glue stick or double sided tape and adhere your arms and legs to the back side of the paper plate.
  4. Take your four hexagon shapes and glue to the face part of the plate.
  5. Next you will take your googly eyes and use fast drying glue to adhere to the paper plate. Let sit and dry. You can always just use a black marker to make the eyes but the googly eyes just make it so much more fun.

That is it! You are done!
