Apple and Worm Craft – Preschool Alternative

This Apple and Worm craft for preschool is great for Galactic Starveyors for Lifeways VBS 2017 theme.

What you Need:

• Red, Green cardstock or construction paper
• Green Pipe Cleaner
• glue
• Mini Googly eyes (Optional)

How to Make:

1. Gather your materials first.
2. Cut out your apple using the Apple Craft SVG file. You can use these files on a cutting machine like a Cameo Silohuette.
3. Glue on your green leaf. Using a glue stick is best.
4. Take your green pipe cleaner and slide it through the holes of the apple. Twist it in a way that will look like a worm. Make sure you curl the head part up.

That is it! You are done.

Baseball Paper Plate Craft

What you Need:

• White Paper Plates (From Dollar Tree)
• Red Marker/Permanent Marker/Crayon

How to Make:

1. Gather all your supplies!

Purchase a pack of white paper plates from Dollar Tree for $1. You can also purchase red markers or permanent markers from Dollar Tree as well.

Or you can purchase 12 count Crayola Red Washable Markers on Amazon for under $8.

2. Lay your paper plate flat on the table.

3. Draw your half moons facing outwards from the center of the plate as pictured below.

4. Draw on the sewing marks evenly spacing them. I recommend you use washable markers with preschoolers or crayons. Just be patient with preschoolers doing this activity. Many are still in the process of learning how to hold a writing instrument. Also many will want to add their own creations to their baseball.

5. Be sure to label on the back with the child’s name.

That is it! You are done! Or they are done!

1. Orange Table Cloth to make Giant Basketballs for Wall decorations

You can find the plastic tablecloths in the party supply section at Dollar Tree. You can also find these at Walmart for $.97 for the rectangle and $1.27 for the round. Get White and Black Tablecloths and make Giant Soccer Balls for wall decorations as well.

These are usually found towards the front of Dollar Tree but may also be in the Party Supply area.

These can be found in the Party Favor section of the Party Supplies at Dollar Tree.

Use these to decorate the snack area tables or even to decorate for VBS planning meetings or registration tables. They are also games so you can use them as ice breaker activities in your classroom.

7. Sports Foam Craft Stickers

Dollar Tree Decorations Part 2

Dollar Tree Decoration Ideas for Galactic Starveyors is one of the best frugal ideas you can follow when looking to decorate for VBS.

First let your imagination run wild! There are so many things you can use from Dollar Tree to make great decorations for Lifeway’s Galactic Starveyors VBS 2017.

Here are some items you can purchase from Dollar Tree.

The star table decorations are seasonal but are available through 4th of July weekend.

Globe Balls found in the toy section. Great to use for a VBS store as well as a desk decoration in the Galactic Starveyors Clubhouse.

You can also purchase on Amazon for about the same price each.

Clear Globe Inflatable ball. These were found both in the school supply area as well as the summer fun area of Dollar Tree.

Easy Clubhouse posters. These United States Map are a quick and inexpensive to make your Bible Study room into a clubhouse. These are found in the school supply section.

Look for these Star plates in the Party Section. Mine were also with the Memorial/4th of July decorations. You can easily use them for walls as Stars or even hanging down in your Worship Rally Area.

These foil Star Cutouts were found in various colors in the party decoration areas.

Keep track of your VBS attendance with this awesome Space Attendance Record. Use a dry erase marker or permanent.

LED Tea Light candles come in a 2 pack. You can also find the Star Tea Lights as well that can be used to give dimension to your stars on the walls or even a backdrop.

Glitter Glue and decorative tape will be great to decorate bookmarks and Galactic Moon Gazers.

These are seasonal but I happened to pick up a few and they work great to make your own Galactic Planets.

Galactic Planets from bouncy balls. Look for different size bouncy balls in the Toy section. Tape on some fishing wire and hanging them from the ceiling to make planets.

Build a Starveyors Clubhouse is one of the learning activities for Lifeways Galactic Starveyors VBS 2017 Day 1. The information provided below is from the Kindergarten Leader Guide.

Gather your supplies: Bible, Pack items 9 and 11, large cardboard box, reflective tape, colored masking tape or duct tape, crayons and markers, other art supplies as desired.

• Use the “Clubhouse Ideas” (pack 11) to create a clubhouse observatory using one or more cardboard boxes. Place the clubhouse in a corner of the room. Lay art supplies, book and Bible nearby.
• Lead Starveyors to decorate the box with the markers, crayons, tape and sign (pack item 9).
• Talk about looking at the stars at night as Starveyors complete the clubhouse, lie inside or outside the box and pretend to look up at the stars.
• Open the Bible to Genesis 1 and talk about the Bible story. Remind Starveyors that God created the sky and everything in it. He created the world and everything in it. He created us to love Him.

I hope you find some good decorations at Goodwill as I have at a reasonable price. Below are the items I have found that I will be using for our VBS week. Let me note here: We have the regular Goodwill stores as well as a retail center in which you go through bins of items. There is a clothing area and a household goods area. You pay by the pound. This is where I have gotten many of the items below at super cheap prices.

Lost Sheep Craft

On Day 1 kids will learn about The Lost Sheep. Luke 15:1-7.

What you Need:

• White and black card-stock or construction paper
• White pom poms or cotton balls
• googly eyes
• Tacky Glue or Elmer’s Glue

You can get the construction paper, cotton balls and googly eyes at Dollar Tree. Dollar Tree also has tacky glue in the craft section.

The Sheep SVG file is FREE to download.

How to Make:

1. Cut the Sheep out of cardstock using the SVG file on a cuttable machine.

2. Glue the black to the white backing. You can buy tacky glue from Dollar Tree.

3. Glue on the Googly Eyes. Dollar Tree sells 125 count for $1. Amazon has a deal for 1200 count for under $5.

4. Glue on the Cotton Balls or Pom Poms. You can purchase 100 count cotton balls from Dollar Tree for $1 or you can get 1000 for $10 on Amazon. 

Game On Alternative Craft Idea Day 2

Lazuras Toilet Paper Roll Craft

This is a simple craft that can be used for the preschool children.

What you Need:

• Empty toilet paper roll
• White strips of streamer or toilet paper
• Tape
• Googley Eyes

How to Make:

1. Cut the streamers in strips in length as desired. There is no better pricing than Dollar Tree! 2 pack of 70 ft for $1

2. Get googly eyes from Dollar Tree.

3. Use glue dots or tape for kids to attach their strips to the toilet paper.
